Virtual Reality Lesson Plan Ideas: Part 1

As the new year looms just around the corner, it's time for educators to think about new ways to make their learning material exciting enough for their students to engage with it. Virtual reality lesson plans are a new and great way to stimulate the minds of students, regardless of age or knowledge level. Below are a few lesson plan ideas for various subjects that could be implemented using the Digipline Design software.

Mathematics

For a lot of students, mathematics can be a challenging experience. However, the power of virtual reality to create powerful, visual experiences may be able to help those students.

VR would be great for algebraic equations that involved graphs or shapes. For example, by interacting with the formula floating in the air, students could get instant feedback on how a graph is visually represented or how much area of a triangle they've discovered.

Biology

Biology has a lot of wonderful opportunities that teachers can explore using virtual reality learning environments as a tool. These lessons plans would be great for students, especially those who may have issues with certain aspects of biology lessons like dissection.

One example of this would be dissection of a virtual frog. Students could "dissect", or pull apart, individual elements of a frog's body to see how it all connects and works together to create this amazing creature.

History

History is another subject that has a lot of potential for educators to create exciting virtual reality lesson plans. Depending on the place and historical era, teachers have a wide variety of material to expose their students to.

One great example that comes to mind is a simulated version of Lewis and Clark's journey as they travelled to the West Coast of what is now the United States. Students could be fellow explorers on the journey, and experience the challenges, people, and scenery they met along the way.

Virtual reality has the power to transform the experience of students, and allows educators to be more creative with their lesson plans. The examples given above are just the tip of the iceberg. We're excited to share our thoughts on VR lesson plan examples for other subjects in the near future! If you have any ideas or examples, you're more than welcome to share your thoughts with everyone in the comments section.
